Get Fit or Die Tryin’ – Run, Interruped

Lesson learned – always take your shoes off before you blog.

If I had, before writing my last entry, I would have known that the rubbing on the inside of my right foot had left me with a blister the size of my thumb on the arch.

Ow.

I drained the blister, and have been keeping it covered with ointment and gauze since Wednesday night. It’s still really sore, and wearing any shoes besides flip-flops is pretty uncomfortable. That didn’t stop me from logging three days at the State Fair this weekend, but I had to leave the Fair today sooner than I wanted as my foot was really sore.

I hadn’t planned to get new running shoes so soon, but I’m so excited about the way things are shaping up that I didn’t want to throw a wrench in my training. So I met up with my fit friend Jess at Kyle’s Bikes in Ankeny to meet their shoe fitter Bill. He was really great, taking me through sock selection, taping my footfalls on the treadmill to see how my feet move during a run, and even figuring out that I was a dancer based on my running style. Good to know all those years in spandex and sequins didn’t go to waste. 🙂

So now I have the COOLEST-looking shoes coming to me later this week. Bill didn’t have the shoes I liked in my color and size, so they had to be ordered. Which is just as well, since I’m not going to be able to run anywhere on the giant blister. I’m giving myself a week to completely heal, and get back on track. I felt better about sticking to my spreadsheet once I realized the final week of the “Run Your Butt Off Plan” plan is roughly the same as the first week of the half-marathon training plan, so I’ve got that week to play with.

So check back in next week to see how my blister’s doing. 🙂
