Get Fit or Die Tryin’ – Every (Other) Day I’m Shufflin’

Long time, no post – but I’ve been busy. Swearsies.

Every (other) day I’m shufflin’…

Training for the Gasparilla Half-Marathon continues, even though it’s slow and I’m not happy with my pace. 13 minute miles? Seriously? But I know I’m doing the right thing by keeping it slow and steady, even though seeing that average pace KILLS me. But that means I’ve got nowhere to go but up, right?

One thing that does NOT need to go up is my weight. I read on the Intertubes (which means it MUST be true, right?) that each additional pound of body weight you’re carrying above your ideal weight exerts an additional four pounds of pressure on your knees. Even if those numbers are completely wrong, it still can’t be good to try to run while I’m lugging around these 70 extra pounds.

Since I have a super-short attention span, and counting calories was just not enough fun for me, I signed up for Weight Watchers Online. It’s just more fun than calorie-counting, and apparently I’m a child who needs cute pictures and games to motivate my weight loss. Whatever gets you through, right? Plus, Jessica Simpson is their new spokesperson, and I like her shoes and handbags, so what can be bad in this scenario? Speaking of…

Jessica Simpson wedges I bought on clearance. I think they’re adorable. My mother thinks they’re hideous. I silence her with one phrase – “I’ve seen the tuxedos from your 1975 wedding…”

And the cutesy graphics and cute-shoe-designer-spokesperson tricks must be working, since I’m down nearly 7 pounds since the first of September. Only 18 pounds to go until I announce the FREAKIN’. COOL. THING. I’m going to do when I hit my goal weight. Plus, if I keep this pace up, I could be down 45 more pounds by race day. Dang, Gina – that would be flippin’ sweet. I think I just talked myself out of ice cream tonight.

(Does anyone else remember the Martin Lawrence TV show where he always used to say “Dang, Gina!” to his girlfriend? Does that make me really old? Bueller?)

Onward and downward, friends!
