Been around the world... Blogging

One month on from London…

Hard to believe that a month ago today, I was returning from London. I’ve been crazy-busy catching up from being gone, and have acquired a new writing client who increased the hours they want from me starting July 1 so I’ve been trying to keep up with that.

And quite frankly, I’ve got a bit of performance anxiety now about blogging. So many of you were kind enough to read my posts from London, and said so many nice things, that I’ve been afraid to write again. You all loved reading about my adventures in London – will you love reading about my adventures in Bondurant? I hope so. But I’ll never know unless I keep writing, right?

So, one last London post before we move on!

Top 5 Things That Were Awesome on This London Trip

  1. Kicking it for the Jubilee – I was completely unaware, when I booked this trip last December, that I would be there for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. I got to do so many awesome things as part of the celebrations, and it was great to see the British people get so excited about it. We Americans change our leaders with regularity, and we don’t get personally attached. We love or we hate the President, it seems, but during those four days everyone in London (and around the world, apparently) loved the Queen. It was really great to see.
  2. Oxford Street – I spent a rainy afternoon wandering down Oxford Street, one of the main shopping districts in central London. I had a blast, and channeled my inner Duchess Katherine as I visited all her favorite shops. I visited Selfridge’s for the first time, and had to laugh at the section in their Food Hall labeled “Foods From America”. The cups of mini Chips Ahoy that you can pick up in the dollar section at Target? Just over three pounds sterling – almost $5. It’s good to know some of our culture is desirable to the British. 🙂
  3. British Airways business class – SERIOUSLY an awesome way to travel. Thank you, Chase BA Visa card and Dad’s travel expenses, for giving me the points to upgrade. And thanks to the flirtatious BA clerk at Heathrow who upgraded my seat so I could sit in “the bubble” (the upper deck) on the way back to Chicago. So quiet! So comfy! I’m now so spoiled!
  4. St. Paul’s Cathedralthis post outlines the awesomeness that was my trip to St. Paul’s. I climbed all the way to the top and did not die, and had a powerful spiritual experience that I will not soon forget.
  5. London – just London – it’s still one of my favorite places on Earth. I don’t know how soon I’ll be able to get back there, but I’ll always be wanting to. London, you’ve taught me so much about people, about the world, about myself – and I’ll always be grateful.

  1. Will you take me someday? Seeing the reports from the Olympics makes me want to really bad! (But part of me would feel wrong not stopping in to France too. Afterall, J’aime le France! (et le croissant, et le vin, et le fromage, et le pain…et le many other French things…oh wait this is about London…I digress.)
